There are two kinds of Moba players out there, those with taste and those that play DotA. If you’re the latter then I’m pretty sure Valve has been teasing this update for quite some time and, I guess, I’m secretly happy for you guys.
In the latest update coming to DotA 2, New Frontiers (7.33), Valve has made some big moves. Notably, they are increasing the overall map size by 40%! Valve has said, “the core objective of the game remains the same,” and “your lanes aren’t further away from each other, and everything you need to win is still in the centre of the map.” Whether you play Moba games or not, you can very easily see how changing up a map this drastically will change the whole way the game is played, even if Valve says otherwise. I, however, am excited to see what comes out of this map change. I remember when LoL made big changes to their map, and it completely changed the way I enjoyed the game. It added in so many new angles and objectives that play-styles were able to change in a way that allowed us to play away from the meta and more closely to something that aligned with our inner gamer.
Along with the massive map update, DotA is also getting a host of other features. Of course, more map means new locations, but you’ll also need a few vision units called Watchers. New locations also mean more space for mini-bosses and Lotus Pools that generate fruit. Aside from the map, there will also be new items, matchmaking updates and UI tweaks.
The standard balancing of the heroes will also take place, but with the amount of new real estate to explore, there will have to be an update on every single one of them.
If you’re not one for all the frills, the full changelog can be found here, but if you would like to fully experience the update, you can check it all out on DotA’s webpage.
Now I need to go and clean my keyboard before my LoL client picks up I typed this much about another Moba.
