In news that’s hardly surprising considering the fanfare the game has already received before it’s even released, Diablo 4 has officially gone gold.
In the era we’re living in with live-service games and day-one patches, going gold doesn’t have quite the acclaim associated with it that it once had. Nonetheless, it’s still a milestone that Diablo 4 has proudly reached.

“Going gold is a landmark milestone for the incredible Diablo 4 team, who have all worked so hard crafting the next-generation instalment of this iconic franchise. Whether players are veterans of the franchise or jumping in for the first time, we can’t wait for everyone to experience the full game: taking part in the incredible storytelling, experimenting with character classes and builds, and exploring what the endgame and the dark world of Sanctuary has to offer.” – Rod Fergusson, Diablo general manager.
Going gold is a somewhat outdated reference to when games were still predominantly, if not exclusively, available in a physical format. Going gold means that the developers are officially done with the game and have put aside a complete and bug-free version, ready to be placed into clamshells and sent off.
Obviously, we’re living in 2023 and not 1993, meaning development on games is never really done and over, but I digress. According to Blizzard, Diablo 4 has gone gold, meaning it’s done and ready for its June 6th release date with no delays heading our way; let the waiting game begin.
