Subnautica 3 Reveal May be Coming Soon

Over the last few months, whispers have been in the air surrounding the next instalment of the Subnautica franchise. Now, thanks to the Lead Artist Liam Tart, fans are more excited than ever.

Since its initial release, the underwater survival exploration game Subnautica has had a hardcore fan base. Considering the small team behind it, it has remained a top-rated game with critical acclaim.

A lot of the appeal and the reason why it’s as loved as it is comes from the horror aspect of the game, where players find themselves stuck in an oceanic alien world full of countless strange aquatic creatures.

Then in May of 2021, fans were delighted when Subnautica: Below Zero, a direct sequel to the first game and its events, was officially launched, but they weren’t left satisfied and, in the years since, have been counting down the days until the next Subnautica game would be revealed.

The excitement reached a new high when news got out that Unknown Worlds, the team behind the game, had started to hire staff to work on the next game in the Subnautica universe. Still, when Liam Tart, Lead Artist at Unknown Worlds, tweeted on his personal Twitter account claiming that the team would have a lot of exciting content to show off soon, things became real in the eyes of fans.

While the Tweet offered no unique details or dates, many franchise fans feel an official reveal could be looming. Further lending to this belief, Subnautica animator and generalist developer Scott MacDonald replied to a fan’s question on the Tweet’s comments, seemingly confirming that the sequel will involve a period of early access, similar to the previous Subnautica titles.

Subnautica is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. If you’re looking for a game with great storytelling and atmosphere, it’s definitely worth diving into; excuse the pun.
