Activision has revealed new details about several rather significant updates that will be rolling out for the Ricochet anti-cheat system in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 during Season 3. These anti-cheat updates will help to provide a more fair gameplay experience for all.
Season 2 of Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 will begin on the 12th of April and will release alongside a big update. While we don’t know much about the update, the beloved Intervention sniper rifle will return, and two fan-favourite Modern Warfare 2 characters will face off in a long-awaited confrontation.
We also know that the third season is set to bring many balance adjustments and fixes based on recent feedback from the Season 2 Reloaded update. Team Ricochet recently reiterated its zero-tolerance policy for cheating in the latest Call of Duty titles by banning all players caught cheating, purging banned accounts from the Ranked Play top 150, and adjusting Skill Rating for players that frequently played with and benefited from cheaters.
For Season 3 and beyond, a brand new “Replay Investigation” tool will allow Team Ricochet to view automatically captured and stored match data during the investigation process. This tool will enable the team to identify and study the cheating across all Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 going forward.
Alongside the Replay Investigation tool, there will also be third-party hardware device detection that Team Ricochet tested and developed throughout Season 2. In the future, when users attempt to use unsupported devices that alter the gameplay experience, they will receive a warning in the game. Players who continue to use malicious devices will receive subsequent notifications, deployment of in-game mitigations, account suspensions, and account bans.
While only time will tell how well these anti-cheat measures will work, it’s undisputed that fewer cheaters mean more actual players playing the game and enjoying the new content.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 are available now for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
