AI League Launches Today, Kicking Off FIFA’s Post-EA Future

An entire lifetime has passed since EA and FIFA announced they would be parting ways, yet not much has changed. Microsoft is still embroiled in its Activision Blizzard debacle. Game companies still seem incapable of pulling off solid day-one game releases, and I still suck at League of Legends.

However, that’s not to say everything is the same. Now that EA and FIFA are no longer a couple, we’ve finally got to see what this ex-couples future will look like. On EA’s side, we’ve gotten to see some of its upcoming simulation game, EA Sports FC and on FIFA’s side, we get to see them try to win the breakup.

As of this morning, FIFA released a new mobile game called AI League. The game is available to download as you read this on Android (in open beta), with an iOS version coming soon.

AI League is a game developed by Altered State Machine. It is described as a 4-on-4 casual football game played between AI-controlled characters, with players giving input at more tactical moments. Players can think of themselves as the coach of their AI team, and each AI footballer is given unique AI traits that define their strengths and weaknesses.

So far, 2023 is shaping up to be an interesting and exciting year for soccer games. With last year’s FIFA 23 marking the end of the longtime collaboration between FIFA and EA Sports, only time will tell what the future will look like.
