In rather unexpected news this morning, one of the critically acclaimed Nintendo Switch exclusives has been announced for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. Over the past few years, Square Enix has been on a seemingly unwavering mission to revive as many of its classic IPs as possible.
We’ve had Final Fantasy 8 Remastered and Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition, to name a few. Last year Square Enix remade one of their beloved cult classing titles, Live A Live – which will now be confirmed for PC and PlayStation platforms next month.
For those who missed this absolute gem of a title, Live A Live is a 1994 JRPG developed by Squaresoft. It was initially only released in Japan. As with most classic JRPGs, the game features turn-based combat. The story follows seven protagonists, each with self-contained stories that can be played in any order players want.
Live A Live was also the directorial debut of Takashi Tokita, who would later work on both Chrono Trigger and Parasite Eve.
Last year, Square Enix announced a complete remake of Live A Live. This remake was announced as a Nintendo Switch exclusive co-published with Nintendo. However, the game is now available to pre-order digitally for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC.
Live A Live marks the third game by HD-2D to skip all Xbox platforms. To date, Square Enix has yet to reveal why these games have ignored Microsoft’s systems despite Octopath Traveler’s release on the platform.
Live A Live is available now on Nintendo Switch and is set to release on PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 on the 27th of April, 2023.
