Love it or hate it, there is no denying that Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice was nothing short of incredible when the game was first released in 2017. The game was a dark fantasy-style action adventure with a heavy Norse mythology theme. The game soured to critical acclaim thanks to its visuals and narrative that never shied away from the sometimes harsh realities of what living with psychosis can be like.
Ever since then, fans of the game have been eagerly anticipating a sequel. While the developers of the game, Ninja Theory, let fans know that a follow-up game was in the works, they’ve kept all details surrounding the game to themselves until now.
As part of Epic’s State of Unreal keynote at GDC 2023, Ninja Theory finally game fans a small taste of what they can expect from the upcoming Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 by releasing a trailer showing off the mind-blowing facial animations created using Unreal Engine 5.
The incredible footage was made possible thanks to Epic’s Unreal Engine 5’s Metahuman technology, the same technology that was used to create the Matrix Awakens Unreal Engine 5 demo that was released previously, and the trailer for Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 shows just how far that technology has evolved since.
