In a country where we sit without power for multiple hours each day, battery backup has become necessary in every household, especially if you don’t want interrupted game time. Last year we did a full review of the EcoFlow River Pro kit, and suffice it to say, we were very impressed by the offering. So much so that two of our writers bought the kit so that they could keep gaming when blackouts hit.
Yesterday EcoFlow announced the availability of the new Delta 2, River 2, and River 2 Max power stations and showed us a few other products coming to market this year. At the launch event, EcoFlow also announced that they had opened a local office and changed their distributor to Rectron to help them get the new products into the market.
Joy Wu, Head of LAMEA & APAC at EcoFlow, says, “South Africa is not the first country we have operated in with power supply challenges nor is it the only one. We have cut our teeth in a variety of markets, which is why we can confidently vouch for the quality of our products. We are thrilled to finally be bringing them to South Africa and know they can make a meaningful impact on people’s lives.”
At first glance, the Delta 2 and River 2 power stations look similar to the previous generation, with some models now featuring an updated carry handle to make transport easier. Others look like they’ve just received a cosmetic update with a colour change with a sandy beige accent.
Interesting to note that EcoFlow says these power stations, which use LiFePO4 batteries, will give you over 3,000 full charge and drain cycles. Most normal battery inverters that use sealed lead acid batteries are only rated for a few hundred cycles. We’ll reserve our judgements until we are able to do a comprehensive test on the new range.
