Even though the Guardian Rank system in Destiny 2 is still practically brand new, having been recently introduced to the game during the Lightfall expansion, Bungie has announced that players can expect some significant changes as the system is adjusted to benefit further those who participate in higher-level content like raids and the Trails of Osiris.
Two of the most significant game additions that Lightfall brought were Commendations and the Guardian Rank system, which allows players to complete objectives to prove their skill and experience in the game. These objectives consist of tasks like completing the Legendary campaign, earning Exotics, awarding Commendations to other players and more. However, players have been openly and vocally unhappy with the system as it opened the door to exploitation.
Now it seems like players’ cries are no longer falling on deaf ears as the official Bungie Help Twitter account has announced some major changes coming to the Guardian Rank system in an upcoming update.
Guardian Ranks Update: To more closely match our goals, we have reduced the required Commendations score to complete objectives across all Guardian Ranks.
Objective descriptions will be updated on March 16 to display the new Commendations requirements.

According to the announcement from Bungie, the March 16th update will introduce a new objective description for the Commendation requirements and see a reduction to the required Commendation score needed to complete objectives across the Guardian Ranks.
Bungie said that the changes to the Guardian Rank system would more closely match the goals for Commendations. However, they didn’t elaborate much further. Commendations are tied to Guardian Rank progression, and players have already found ways to farm and exploit this.
The most used exploit currently sees players heading into an activity only to blow themselves up and award each other with Commendations instead of legitimately earning them and reaping the associated rewards as was initially intended with the introduction of the system.
Hopefully, the upcoming update will be enough to address the player’s concerns because, at the moment, it seems like none of the active players in the community like or enjoy either the Commendation or Guardian Rank systems.
