It’s finally arrived. The much-anticipated Resident Evil 4: Remake’s demo is here and players are already discovering hidden secrets, modes and easter eggs hidden within. The most significant of these little secrets to be unearthed so far is a secret cheat code allowing players to unlock the Mad Chainsaw difficulty mode exclusive to the demo.
Before the cheat to unlock this difficulty mode was uncovered, players could only unlock the mode by chance. Mad Chainsaw mode significantly increases the enemy damage and health while making them far more aggressive and changing where they spawn on the map.
The mode also sees the chainsaw-wielding Dr Salvador equipped with a flaming chainsaw and does away with all checkpoints, meaning when you die you die and will need to start again from scratch.
Those sadists out there who want to try out this brutal mode for themselves can follow the following old-school-esque steps to unlock it:
Step one: Head over to the main menu and ensure the “Main Story” option is highlighted.
Step two: Hold down L1 and R1
With L1 and R1 still being held down, players now need to press:
PlayStation and Xbox:
UP, LEFT, DOWN, RIGHT, SQUARE, TRIANGLE, CIRCLE, X (which is spoken out loud as X, never as cross).
PC:
Hold down SHIFT and SPACE and then press:
W, A, S, D, R, I, E, F.
When inputted correctly, players should now see the option to select Mad Chainsaw mode for their playthrough.
Resident Evil 4: Remake is set to launch this month on the 24th and Capcom has already announced they are hard at work on a Day One patch that will see multiple improvements to the game as well as fixing the overly distracting rain effect.
Capcom has also stated that they are working on a free DLC to add a VR mode for PlayStation VR 2 users, however with no release date given players might have to wait a while longer before this mode arrives.
