You get a ban and you get a ban, everyone’s getting a ban! After last week’s news that Escape from Tarkov has banned over 6700 cheaters and published their usernames online to send a message, I didn’t think I’d be sitting here writing about even more cheating gamers getting what’s coming to them, and yet here we are.
In today’s news, 46 players, or should I say ex-players, have found themselves banned from all future Dota 2 Esports events. This new swing of the ban hammer comes after an investigation that was started in January after the Chinese regional Winter Tour of the Dota Pro Circuit.
Forming part of these bans is the entire Knights esports team, who were accused of cheating their way to their 3rd place using vision hacks. Finishing in 3rd place netted the team a cool $27,000 (about R488,940).
Just before the event, the Knights, who up until this tournament was a notoriously poor team, had rebranded themselves as the Antarctic Penguins and dropped almost all of their original players. However, with the ban of each new member of the group, it still stands to be seen how the team will proceed now.
The ban was handed out for interference with fair competition and consisted of 21 permanent bans, 13 two-year suspensions and 12 one-year suspensions.
These prominent bans follow over 40,000 public Dota 2 cheating bans that were handed out by Valve just last month.
