Thunderbrush 2023 – Local Miniature Painting Competition

Fancy yourself a little more than just a miniature painting hobbyist? Or perhaps you have too much grey and not enough slay? Well, the team and Wildstorm Studios have just the event for you:

THUNDERBRUSH 2023!

Hosted at the Cape Town Creative Academy at the V&A Waterfront on the 18th and 19th of March, Thunderbrush 2023 is a miniature and figure painting competition and workshop where you can swing your artist’s sword against many others in the miniature painting community or attend a master class in the fine arts of painting small things by none other than Roman Lappat.

Roman is a German Miniature Artist with thousands of students worldwide and a master in his own right. He’ll be hosting a “speed painting” seminar on March 18th where he will take you through the theoretical and practical skills needed to paint faster but still paint well.

Unfortunately, if you haven’t secured a ticket to this year’s seminar, you’ll have to wait until next year as those tickets sold like hot potatoes. However, Roman will still be hanging out for the rest of the weekend as he’s a special guest judge for the over-all competition.

For those of you that consider yourselves pros at miniature painting, the entries for the competition close on Sunday morning, the 19th of March. There is an online category that allows you to submit an art piece if you’re unable to get down to the V&A. Otherwise, you should definitely pop on down to have a look at the amazing pieces that will be put on public display. There are various categories ranging from beginner to veteran and from one miniature to full-on dioramas.

I also just recently got into the hobby, and I’m super excited to see local competitions out there that are growing the community and allowing us to have a platform to show off our awesome and hard-fought work.

Some of the happenings for the weekend are listed below, but if you would like to find out more, you can reach out to Wildstorm Studios on their Facebook Page.
