Respawn Entertainment, the creator of the famous battle royale game Apex Legends, is optimistic about the game’s future. Apex Legends Design Director Evan Nikolich expressed his vision for the game in an interview with IGN, adding that he believes Apex Legends will live as long as the legendary PC shooter Counter-Strike.
Having launched in February 2019, Apex Legends is now in its fifth year, and Nikolich is aware that Respawn Entertainment may someday cede control of their game. He hopes that players will continue to play out of pure love for the game.
Nikolich explained that his goal is for Apex Legends to be able to stand on its own and be self-sufficient for at least 20 years. He believes the game’s systems need to be strong and exciting enough to keep players engaged season after season, even without adding new content.
As Apex Legends continues to grow and evolve, Respawn Entertainment is clearly committed to ensuring that the game remains engaging and relevant for years to come. And with the game’s popularity showing no signs of slowing down, could it actually outlive Counter-Strike?
