Double Fine PsychOdyssey Is A Free-To-Watch 32-Part Documentary

It’s no secret that Psychonauts 2 is one of my favourite games. I ended up reviewing it when everything was falling apart, including me. Psychonauts 2 was so great that even surgery couldn’t stop me from playing. Hours after leaving the operating table, I was at home, in pain, playing like my life depended on it.

That’s how I know Psychonauts 2 is something special. Thanks to a 32-part, 20+ hour documentary called Double Fine PsychOdyssey, I can finally get some insight into how the magic was captured and moulded into the unbelievable experience that is Psychonauts 2.

Double Fine PsychOdyssey chronicles the game’s development and is available for free for anyone to watch on YouTube.

The documentary description lets fans of the game know what they’re in for if they watch.

“Ten years after the release of their flagship video game Psychonauts, Double Fine Productions returns to its most celebrated franchise with Psychonauts 2. Now facing the pressure to produce a worthy sequel, the studio must confront overly ambitious designs, poor morale, technical challenges and financial woes, all during a turbulent span of time for the world.

Double Fine PsychOdyssey is the direct continuation of the acclaimed series Double Fine Adventure. It offers even deeper insight into the passion, humour, and heartbreak of video game development.”

According to the team behind the documentary, it took over six years to make. It was created from thousands of hours of footage.

If like me, you loved the game or have a keen interest in video game development, this is a must-watch, and when I finally stop playing Hogwarts Legacy, this will be the next hole I fall into.
