Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Walks Away With A Grammy For Its Soundtrack

It’s a great time to be a gamer. Not only have we had a slew of amazingly brilliant games in recent history, but we’ve also seen those games recognised in the greater media. Just in 2023, we’ve had the astounding Last of Us live-action adaption with HBO max, we’re gearing up for the Mario movie, and now, a video game has won a Grammy for its soundtrack. Yup, you read that right.

Last night marked the 65th annual Grammy Awards, and they were rewarding game soundtracks in their own category for the very first time. Back in November, the nominations were announced, and the games in the running were: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Aliens: Fireteam Elite, Call Of Duty: Vanguard, Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy, and Old World.

We can now announce that during last night’s Grammy awards, the first person to walk away with a Grammy for Best Score Soundtrack for Video Games and Other Interactive Media was Stephanie Economou for her work on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

Previously video games were n eligible alongside film and TV at the Grammys with Baba Yetu, a song written for Civilisation 4, becoming the first-ever music initially composed for a video game to win a Grammy award. Since 2011 however, the only other game to even receive a nomination was Journey in 2012, until now.
