The popular battle royal game Fortnite is about to become an even more limited experience for players who obtained the game through the iOS and Mac app stores or Google Play.
According to a post from the Fortnite Status Twitter account, users who play Fortnite via these services will no longer be allowed to spend V-Bucks to buy in-game items and must be older than 18 years old to play starting 30 January.
Beginning January 30, Fortnite players using the August 2020 13.40 app build previously available on iOS, Mac, and Google Play can no longer spend V-Bucks and must be over 18 to play. (1/2)

Due to legal conflicts between Epic Games, Apple, and Google, the game was withdrawn from these platforms in August 2020. Players who already have the game installed on their devices can continue to play it, however, their version is locked at 13.40. As a result, players have missed out on many updates, including whole seasons of the game.
Epic Games’ latest announcement will further limit the experience for users who obtained the game via the iOS, Mac, and Google Play platforms.
In a follow-up tweet, Epic Games attributes the changes to the “restrictions on Fortnite” imposed by Apple and Google.
“We want all versions of our games to use the current suite of Epic Online Services including parental controls, purchasing defaults, and parental verification features. We are not able to update the app on these platforms given Apple and Google’s restrictions on Fortnite.”
