I love it when a video game can come into your life and teach you something about yourself that you weren’t aware of before. For example, I never gave cats a second thought before playing one of my favourite games of the last few years, Stray, a chance. And now? I’m a fan, which makes today’s news all the more heartwarming.
So Stray, an excellent and touching game about a cat being amazing, is now transcending from just a game and helping raise money for cats in the real world. Yup. How freaking cute can you get?
America’s Public Broadcasting Service released a video where they spoke to the publisher of the game, Jeff Legaspi, about this endeavour, and you can watch it below.
According to Jeff, this move was a “no-brainer for us”. The Nebraska Humane Society offered game codes on social media in exchange for $5 donations towards their work. And by doing that alone, they were able to raise over $8,000, which is roughly R137,108.
But that’s not the only good Stray did for felines everywhere; the video also talks about Paro, a three-legged cat whose owner raised over $1,500 for charity by streaming the game, and Annapurna, the game’s publisher also sponsored a walkathon for the Stray Cat Relief Fund which totalled $4,000.
While we here at NAG play many games, day in and day out, it’s not often that we get to see a game make an actual difference in the world at large so getting to witness a little digital cat make such a massive difference in the lives of countless kitties everywhere is truly a heartwarming moment to see.
