Jim Ryan, President of Sony, said while speaking at the CES 2023, that the worldwide scarcity of PlayStation 5 consoles has ended. He went on to announce that December 2022 was the biggest month ever for PS5 console sales (I’m sure Christmas played a role in that) and that the company has sold more than 30 million units worldwide.
Sony’s announcement that the PS5 supply has improved is positive news for those who are looking to purchase one. With the global shortage now officially over, retailers globally should now have an easier time finding the PS5 in stock starting from this point forward, and according to listings on Australian retailer EBGames, Sony now appears to be introducing two new PlayStation 5 bundles next month.
The bundles, which include a disc version and a digital bundle, both come with two DualSense controllers and are based on the newer CFI-1216A & CFI-1216B models with 6nm chips. EBGames states that the bundles are arriving in early February 2023.
Although Sony hasn’t yet made an official announcement about these new packages, doing so wouldn’t come as a surprise. Sony has previously sold PS4 system packages that included two DualShock controllers. The upgraded PS5 model, which Sony released in September last year, uses the 6nm AMD Oberon Plus SOC. This chipset produces less heat and consumes less power, than its predecessor. This is great for those of us who run our consoles off batteries most of the time.
