Nothing says “family game night” like murder, mystery, intrigue and some healthy competition about who gets to play Colonel Mustard. Well, provided you grew up before the 2000s, that is. Hasbro (basically the Walt Disney of the “family” board game world) has sneakily announced and released a completely refreshed version of the game families have been enjoying for the last 76 years.
For those who don’t know, Cluedo, or Clue if you’re American and wrong, is one of the world’s most iconic board games, second only to Monopoly. Still, unlike the latter, Cluedo is actually good. Players take on the role of mysterious guests inside a manor, all of whom just witnessed, and are suspects in, a murder that needs solving.

The concept has remained timeless and solid; however, the game has started to age – something Hasbro has now lovingly rectified. While the game retains the original’s charm and whimsy, the colours are now bright and vibrant. The art has had an overhaul worthy of a game released this decade.
And according to Hasbro’s president of global brands Julien McCluney, the refresh timing couldn’t be better: “One of the brands that we really have decided that this is the time for is Clue. Because of the popularity of true crime podcasts, movies, and even all the various versions of CSI and Law and Order, true crime is not going away. We’re thrilled to be able to use this as a launching point for lots of exciting news for Clue this year.”
