Today is the day! World of Warcraft: Dragonflight is finally here. Surprising literally no World of Warcraft players anywhere; the servers seem to be buckling harder than I do when my friends ask me to play one more game after I swore I was done.
Now any OG WoW player will tell you that, in general, turbulent launches and World of Warcraft go hand in hand. Who could forget the 2020 Shadowland launch that had Blizzard scrambling to keep the servers stable while players desperately tried to funnel their way in?
Back then, day one players found themselves experiencing lag and disconnects as they tried to finish quests in the opening sections of the expansion, among other frustrating, albeit amusing, bugs and glitches.
This time around, the issues players are having are slightly more… nuanced… Okay, so the crux is that players have been struggling to get into the game and that the servers keep disconnecting players. But here is where it gets amusing (unless it’s happening to you).
In order to reach the Dragon Isles players can take a trip on either a zeppelin or a boat. As of now, players get booted from the game if either of those modes of transportation arrives late (something you would think wouldn’t happen in a game, but yet here we are). And once out, the struggle to get back in begins.
But as mentioned before, these frustrations are part of the whole experience. By this time next week, this annoyance should be nothing more than a distant memory. Happy playing.
