At its very core, its heart of hearts rAge Expo has always been a celebration of all things gaming. Sure, many sub-interests fall under the same umbrella, but at the end of the day, games and gaming are the threads linking everything and holding it all together.
Therefore it’s only appropriate that our second rAge Expo 2022 Exhibitor Spotlight goes to none other than Yellow Lab Games. Yellow Lab Games is a small-teamed local indie game company based in Cape Town.
After being part of developing and porting other well-known IPs like TABS and 12 Minutes, Yellow Lab Games has decided to get in on the action for themselves and develop their own game. Named Metavoidal, the game is a roguelite brawler about a drummer.

Players take control of The Drummer and need to fight their way out of the clutches of a Metal Band with a cult-like following. Their music is slowly corrupting the world as players know it, but unfortunately, players may have noticed it too late. Tap into the power of the music to strengthen your drummer abilities and make your escape.
Players will need to slay their way through the halls of a corrupted catacomb in order to collect the golden record on each level to unlock the boss room and gain a Perk to take into the fight. Another feature that Metavoidal will boast is Meta progression, through collecting Guitar Picks and using them to unlock perks for your next run and a killer Metal soundtrack. All the sounds players will hear have been engineered in-house, creating a uniquely MV experience.

As of writing, Metavoidal is free on Itch and can be found by following the link here. Yellow Lab Games have been using Itch to get player feedback on monthly builds to improve and develop from. At rAge, there will be an expo-specific build of the game that will feature multiple things in the works, such as a new enemy type and a boss battle.
Yellow Lab Games also aims to have the game’s Steam Page up and running by the time rAge rolls around. We’re very excited to get our hands on the expo-specific build of this local treasure. If roguelite brawlers are up your alley, then make sure you give the game a play at rAge.
