Elden Ring: The Board Games Rakes In Over $2 Million On Kickstarter

It was only a matter of time before one of the world’s most popular video games would diversify and attempt to capture an entirely new audience. As of writing this post, the Kickstarter campaign to convert the beloved Elden Ring into a board game is now live and has surpassed $2,000,000 in backing in under 24 hours. You know, in case you were wondering just how popular Elden Rings really is post-launch.

Elden Ring: The Board Game is being developed by none other than Steamforged Games, which should sound familiar to board game fans as they’re the company who brought Monster Hunter World: The Board Game and Dark Souls: The Board Game to us, so, for the most part, Elden Ring is in pretty good hands.

While the Kickstarter has overwhelmingly surpassed its goal of $150,000, the campaign is still open for pledges. Three levels are available: Entry Pledge, Core Pledge, and All-in Pledge.

The Entry Pledge will set fans back roughly R1300 and get backers the game’s stand-alone expansion but not the base game itself.

The Core Pledge comes in at R2600 and comes with the base game and some other knickknacks. The All-in Pledge will give backers every single thing released as part of the Kickstart, but it will also set them back a nice R6200.

While it’s easier to judge the quality of a board game by actually seeing it played, the game boasts heavy themes of exploration. It uses a modular hex-based map that expands as players explore the world around them. According to Steamforged Games, the combat will be entirely dice-less and will instead use cards that represent player actions, health and stamina.

As of writing this post, there are only eight days left to back this Kickstarter, and while there isn’t a set-in-stone release date for the game yet, backers should be expecting a mid-2024 date.
