I don’t think anyone who played games in the 90s isn’t aware of Streets of Rage. Developed by Sega, Streets of Rage is one of the most famous beat ’em up video games to have come from the dawn of gaming. Now it’s about to be introduced to an entirely new generation of gamers thanks to the movie adaption that is in the works.
For those who don’t know, Streets of Rage focuses on a group of ex-cops who use their fists to take on a crime syndicate, and Lionsgate just announced the rights to create a movie of the game. They also announced that they had brought Derek Kolstad on board to write the script. Derek Kolstad is perhaps best known for his work on John Wick and its sequels, and working on something for Streets of Rage was a childhood dream of his.
“When Dmitri first mentioned the idea of cracking a ‘Streets of Rage’ movie, I was so immediately freaking in. And to play with Sega? The 10-year-old me is still grinning”, says Kolstad
But now we want to know from you guys, are you excited about this announcement? It’s always a touchy subject when video games get movie adaptions because, for every decent one, there have been ten other attempts, so bad fans can hardly recognise the source material.
