Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake Not Cancelled But Also Not Releasing… Probably

It’s always a good rule of thumb to never trust anyone who feels the need to announce things constantly. For example, there is nothing wrong with accepting a milkshake from a friend when offered one. However, if that friend looks you in the eye while offering and announces, “the milk isn’t off!” maybe you should rethink things.

In today’s news, Ubisoft is the strange friend. This time they’re running around telling everyone that the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake “HAS NOT BEEN CANCELLED!”. They’ve been saying this so much lately that they’ve created an entire FAQ section on their website that people can refer to when they have questions, in this case, doubts.

It wouldn’t have been as suspicious that Ubisoft was holding eye contact a little too long while making this claim if all the available evidence wasn’t leaning towards the contrary. So for those who might not know or have already forgotten, the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake has been delayed quite a lot. The game was initially announced in 2020, and as of today, there is still no whisper of a release date. To add to the mystery, the game is also not listed as falling part of Ubisoft’s 2023 financial year.

Some highlights from the FAQ are: There is no release date, no plans to remake any of the other games in the series and maybe the most damning update yet: fans who have preordered the game will find their preorders have been automatically cancelled and refunded. Ubisoft says this is just a technicality until a release date gets set, but it doesn’t bode well.
