Everyone has that one game that forever lives rent-free in their hearts and mind; for me, that game is The Witcher, CD Projekt Red’s debut work from 2007 and, in my opinion, their best. I bring this up because when last night’s news hit that The Witcher was getting remade, the internet lit up in flames.
According to CD Projekt Red developers, The Witcher Remake is currently in active development at Fool’s Theory, a polish game studio, and the game is being fully rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5. Fool’s Theory aren’t strangers to the franchise either, having worked with CD Projekt Red on both 2011’s The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and 2015’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
During their statement, CD Projekt Red confirmed that the previously revealed project codenamed “Canis Majoris” is The Witcher Remake, but fans who thought it was a sequel don’t need to be worried; there are three all-new sequels in the works at this time that will be released sometime over the next six years.

Speaking about the upcoming remake, Adam Badowski, CD Projekt Red’s head of studio, said, “The Witcher was the first game we made, ever, and it was a big moment for us then, going back to this place and remaking the game for the next generation of gamers to experience, it feels just as big, if not bigger.”
Jakub Rokosz, the chief executive for Fool’s Theory, also released a statement saying, “I am very happy that my professional path has crossed again with fellow developers, from the time of working together on The Witcher 2 and The Witcher 3. Especially when it’s a remake of a project that is so close to our hearts.”
The announcement and confirmation of a remake come 15 years to the day since the game first debuted. While we don’t know which platforms the game will be aimed at or what release window is being eyed, the news is still exciting, and we can’t wait until we get to see what’s currently in the works.
