If you’re looking for a short and sweet article as to whether you need to get Persona 5 Royale, the PS5 Edition then this is it. The game is already 3 years old and there are countless reviews telling us that it’s pretty much one of the best JRPGs out there. One hundred-plus hours of game time in a weird, maybe insane, in-your-face type world with relaxing café music in the background. It’s JRPG through and through. This means, if you are a JRPG fan, that you’ve more than likely already got a copy of Person 5 (and probably the Royal Edition) on PS4. So, should you get it again on PS5?
Honestly, no.
There’s nothing new here, besides a tweaked-up, more stable frame rate, there’s nothing else that has been added to the PS5 edition on top of the PS4 edition. So, you’re expected to pay a pretty premium price for essentially the same game. Look, if you’re one of those that own Skyrim on every console and in every version available then have at it, but don’t expect there to be any sort of new Personas, story or DLC content on the PS5 edition. All you’d be satisfying is your Ash Ketchum need to collect-em-all.

If, however, you’ve never experienced Person 5 before, because you’re an Xboxer or a PCMR-er, then you can be a little more excited! Not only did they release Person 5 Royal on PS5, but they released it on all other devices as well. Xbox X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Windows and even Game Pass. So, you’ll be happy to know that you can dive straight into the wacky, pretty dark, a lot of grim, kind of creepy, somewhat slapstick world of Persona 5 from the comfort of your very own gaming device of choice.

For all the first timers though, you can expect to find yourself in the shoes of a teenage student, pretty typical anime stuff right there, who goes about trying to survive the day at school, attending classes, answering random quiz questions or listening in on the gossip floating around the school halls, but by night, you delve deep into the minds and hearts of the corrupted adults around you.
Taking on your inner persona to battle, capture and challenge the shadow demons that lie deep within the twisted minds of these adults, you’ll run into some intense storylines that may make you feel a bit uncomfortable, but using your, and that of your new crews, freshly discovered powers to destroy the corrupt beings that we see on an almost day-to-day basis in the real world is a pretty strong driving point to get you through to the light on the other end.

You can expect all the best parts of a JRPG, equipping new weapons, combo attacks, levelling up specific deities and characters, a decent amount of “open” world gameplay and some witty banter, but amped up to level 11 with the pop-out UI design and the added bonus of pretty much having an anime inside the game all acted out for you.
The score is based on the Person 5 Royal Game itself, it’s not based on the fact that you really don’t need to buy the ps5 edition if you already own the ps4 edition.
