The Steam mobile app has been around for so long that it hardly even registers for many users. Here’s the thing, it’s not a terrible app. While many users have very little to do with it other than Steam Guard, the app in its current state offers a wide array of features, from purchasing and installing games while away from your PC to allowing you to browse the store and chat with friends. However, regardless of what it offers, the app is just “there” for many users.
Thankfully, Valve seems to have picked up on people’s neutrality concerning the Steam mobile app. As of today, they have launched a brand new beta app for Android and iOS devices. In a blog post this morning, Valve clarified that this new app version will still retain all of the features that users are currently familiar with but will be updated with many more.
Some of the new features included in the app will be a QR code sign-in, more intelligent notifications, an improved Library and multi-account support. There is currently no time frame on when the new app will be released. Still, Valve has invited all interested Steam users to take part in testing this latest iteration.

The early reactions of beta testers on Reddit appear to be highly optimistic, with many praising the new app for its improved notifications and storefront. If you’re interested in beta testing the Steam Mobile App on iOS or Android, you can follow the link here to sign up. iOS users will want to be fast because Apple restricts the number of beta participants to 10,000, so you might find yourself on a waiting list for more slots to open.
“We’re still adding features, fixing bugs, and polishing the app,” Valve wrote. “It’s helpful to hear what you’re excited about, what could be improved, and what needs fixing. Everyone is welcome to join the group and the conversation, even if you’re not able to participate in the beta. We want to hear from you. The beta test helps us test our assumptions, learn what you like and don’t like, and find things that need to be fixed. This is especially important when the app can be used on so many different phones and devices.”
Now we want to hear from you; what are your opinions on the current/new Steam mobile app, and which features are you hoping get added? Let us know.
