Today we received our first official look at HBO’s The Last of Us, and we get to see both Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey in their roles as the iconic duo, Joel and Ellie. Initially released in 2013, The Last of Us earned its body weight in awards and garnered critical acclaim for its post-apocalyptic story, realistic gameplay, and touching relationships.
HBO’s The Last of Us will be a couple of firsts for the studio as it’s the first HBO series based on a video game, and it’s also the largest television production in Canada’s history, with each episode costing more than $10 million to create. The series was filmed between July 2021 and June 2022, and throughout filming, many of the core people from the much-beloved video game joined to help bring the show to life. Neil Druckmann, one of the show creators, wrote and directed the game, and the composer of the game, Gustavo Santaolalla, was also on board.

While many of the show’s details have been kept under wraps, we know that season 1 will follow the events of the first game. The adaption looks to be faithful to the source material based purely on the first few clips released. Through the clips launched by HBO Max today, we see some of Joel and Ellie’s journey and the moment where Joel teaches Ellie to shoot a gun. We also see Nick Offerman bring the reclusive Bill to life and a short tease of Joel’s origin.
No release date has been announced for HBO’s The Last of Us, but the series has been confirmed to premiere sometime in 2023. Now that the first few clips have been revealed, what do you think? Will you be tuning in to this ten-episode adaption, or will you wait until the full trailer arrives to decide? Let us know in the comments.
