It’s August and we’re almost two-thirds of the way through the year. Ask many, and 2022 has been a pretty slow year across all platforms. PlayStation has had a few highlights and of course the GOW sequel still promises to bulk out the year, but it’s still been relatively slow on new blockbuster titles. And despite a really strong 2021, Xbox in 2022 has been almost non-existent. Sales figures and predictions for both companies seem to indicate a sharp decline/or at least a dreary outlook for the near future.
But, what about Nintendo?
Well, people thinking that 2022 has been a bit of a dud will likely quote the fact that BOTW2 has been delayed to next year and that the new gen Switch is still nowhere to be seen. And while they definitely have a point – when you actually look at the titles that have come out already and what’s planned to arrive before the end of 2022 it’s suprising how many more titles have launched on the Switch this year compared to other platforms. Especially considering how many of those are really great games… Here’s just a quick summary along with their Metacritic scores:
- Pokémon Legends: Arceus – 83
- Triangle Strategy – 83
- Kirby and the Forgotten Land – 85
- Nintendo Switch Sports – 72
- Mario Strikers Battle League – 73
- Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes – 80
- Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak – 85
- Live A Live Remake – 82
- Xenoblade Chronicles 3 – 89
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass Wave 1 + 2
Still coming…
- Kirby’s Dream Buffet
- Bayonetta 3
- Splatoon 3
- Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope
- Pokémon Scarlet/Violet
Seen in that light I can’t help but feel it’s a pretty impressive lineup. However, what do you think… has 2022 been a good or bad year for Nintendo? Let us know in the comments section below…
