New MMO Soulframe – Like Warframe But Different

One of the highlights of TennoCon, Digital Extreme’s annual event, was the announcement that the Canadian studio is hard at work with a brand new fantasy game named Soulframe. Digital Extreme, the developers behind the upcoming Soulframe, and the immensely popular Warframe are calling the upcoming game a “free-to-play action hybrid-MMORPG”.

Along with the announcement, they also revealed a cinematic trailer for the game. On the surface, Soulframe seems to be a mirrored universe version of Warframe set in a fantasy world. According to the developers, Soulframe is heavily influenced by themes of nature, restoration and exploration, in a way that brings to mind Studio Ghibli’s Princess Mononoke.

The developers focused on their inspirations to help create a world that is “the collision between industry and nature. The conceit in Soulframe is that the world itself is angry about what’s been done to it, and the grounds underneath tend to shift throughout the day, so there’s going to be proceduralism within the cave networks and crevasses underneath the world.”

During the event, the developers did mention that the game is still in the very early stages of development. However, they plan to let players sneak a “look behind the curtain” sooner than they might expect. According to Digital Extremes, fans should be able to play a rough version of Soulframe within a year.
