Last week was the much anticipated Sony State of Play Showcase. Sony showed off all of the games and other projects they are currently working on and let fans know what’s coming their way. Overall, it wasn’t the most exciting event as most, if not all, of the games mentioned had already been seen and spoken about before the event. However, as is usually the case with events like these, some gems were scattered throughout.
So without further ado, here are the five announcements from Sony’s State of Play Showcase that had us on the edge of our seats with excitement.
Tunic is Coming to PlayStation

Tunic is an indie isometric action-adventure game where players take control of a small woodland fox, and it’s up to them to save the world. The game plays very much like a Legend of Zelda game while still feeling very much unique and fresh. Tunic is one of the best and most enjoyable games we’ve played this year, and if you missed it, you can read our review here.
We aren’t just bringing up Tunic for the sake of it (although it does merit more conversation); we bring the game up because Sony announced that Tunic is receiving a port to both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles.
If you are a console gamer and haven’t played Tunic elsewhere, make sure to save September in your calendar because that’s when Tunic will arrive.
Stray Gets a Release Date – Finally

After what feels like years (because it very much has been), Stray has finally received a release date. During the State of Play event, Sony revealed that the twice-delayed and much-anticipated indie game would be arriving on July 19th 2022.
For those who don’t know, Stray follows a stray cat who finds itself in a strange futuristic dystopia. Stray is on a quest to find their family. To do so, they need to make their way through the unfamiliar world, uncovering dark secrets and making new friendships.
When the game was announced back in 2020, it quickly made its way onto many people’s wishlists (mine included), so to finally have a release date was one of the event’s highlights.
Resident Evil is Getting Another Remake

If there is one thing certain in life, it’s that Capcom will take every opportunity presented to remake their Resident Evil titles and that the remakes will be good, really good.
Ever since the release of the Resident Evil 3 remake back in 2020, before we all started living in our own version of Resident Evil, fans have been eagerly awaiting an announcement of another remake. During last week’s State of Play event, that announcement finally came.
Along with a release date of 24 March 2023, fans have finally gotten confirmation that Resident Evil 4 will be the next remake, and honestly, the internet, in general, couldn’t be more excited.
Another Final Fantasy Game This Way Comes

If there has ever been a reliable franchise that manages to deliver time and time again, it’s Final Fantasy. Ever since fans finished playing Final Fantasy XV way back in 2016 (who can even remember all the way back then?), they’ve been waiting for the follow-up game in the series.
However, according to Sony, the wait isn’t over just yet. During the event, Sony revealed the next instalment in the Final Fantasy franchise, Final Fantasy XVI. They also announced the estimated release date of “summer” 2023.
While there has been a lot of buzz since the game was announced, there has also been a lot of trepidation. It seems that the age of turn-based combat within the Final Fantasy games has finally come to an end, leaving many hoping and praying that the game will still feel like it belongs to the franchise they know and love.
Because Who doesn’t Like Rollerskating Mixed With Shooting?

While Sony’s State of Play Showcase didn’t come with too many surprises, Rollerdrome was one of the exceptions. Created by the same developer who created the overwhelmingly successful OlliOlli games comes Rollerdrome.
Set for release on the 16th of August this year, Rollerdrome is a beautifully cel-shaded game that looks like you’re playing through a comic book. In this upcoming indie title, players will find themselves trying to become the next Rollerdrome champion through any means necessary.
Rollerdrome is a bloody sport consisting of high-velocity rollerskating, pulling off tricks, and, of course, shooting opponents – what could go wrong?
There were our top five favourite announcements from Sony’s State of Play Showcase. However, they’re hardly scratching the surface of everything that was announced. Which announcement was your favourite? Let me know down below.
