Xbox and PC gamers are spoilt for choice when it comes to game controllers but every once in a while a new product comes along that makes you go, daaamn, I want one. The Razer Wolverine V2 Chroma is that controller.

The reason why I like it? Well, there are six remappable buttons on this thing, oh, and… it’s got RGB.

The Wolverine V2 Chroma is the successor to the Razer Wolverine V2, the non-Chroma (RGB) version, and also does not have the additional triggers.

Aimed at both PC and Xbox gamers, this wired controller feels great to hold with a new matt finish on the grips that make it comfortable for long game sessions. The thumbsticks are very responsive with a nice glide as you rotate them while the buttons respond with a noticeable and comforting click.

The D-pad also enjoyed an upgrade and now looks and feels more like the one on the original Xbox controller. There are also lockable triggers that convert the full trigger press into a half-press, for a little more accuracy in shooting games.  Each side can be locked independently from the other giving you the choice to customise as you need. This is a great feature that you don’t know you need until you’ve played with it.

The Wolverine V2 Chroma also comes with interchangeable thumbstick caps so you can customise them to your preference. One is a taller thumbstick with a concave grip while the other is a shorter stick with a convex design.

The four additional triggers that you can customise sit in the bottom centre on the back of the controller. These buttons add additional functionality that you can manually configure for each game. As a gamer with large hands, these were easily accessible but if you love the paddles as found on the Xbox Elite Wireless controller, it will be worth getting these in your hands before you make a decision.

Using the Razer software you can also configure the new Sensitivity Clutch which gives you the ability to instantly increase or decrease the joystick’s sensitivity, handy if you want to bring a sniper rifle to a gunfight. You can also set the Motor Vibration sensitivity, but only for the grips, sadly there is no motor vibration for the triggers of this controller.

As a PC gamer, the Wolverine V2 Chroma feels like a solid fit next to my keyboard and mouse. The RGB looks subtle but nice, and while I would love to see a wireless version, the long cable did not restrict me in my gaming setup. Of course, your mileage may vary.

Aimed at the competitive gaming market, and gamers who want a pro-level controller, the Razer Wolverine V2 Chroma is a solid controller but not quite perfect. Would I buy it, yes, would I use the incredibly long USB C cable to charge my phone, also yes.

BOTTOM LINE
I loved the Razer Wolverine V2 Chroma, not just for the funky RGB but it played great with my PC games. Those additional triggers on the back come in really handy and the lockable shoulder triggers are a great idea.
