When I first saw this Limited Edition version of the WD_BLACK SN750 SE NVMe Gen4 SSD last year, I knew it had to be in my machine. Back then I was desperately excited about the next iteration of the Battlefield franchise and I also desperately needed to upgrade the storage on my editing rig. Little did I know how much the new game would disappoint but I am happy to report that the drive, WD_BLACK SN750 SE NVMe certainly did not.
In fact, I reckon that this drive will become a collectors edition for that very reason.
As far as SSDs go, the WD_BLACK SN750 SE NVMe is a great all-around performer with read speeds up to 3,600MB/s and write speeds at 2,830MB/s, this drive will perform really well in most gaming rigs. If however, you want even more speed for your high-end gaming rig, I suggest you check out the SN850 range of NVMe drives which offer much faster read and write speeds.
For most gamers though, the WD_BLACK SN750 SE will be more than sufficient as the bottleneck will most certainly not be the solid-state drive. To prove this point, I installed this drive into two gaming machines. The first one is my desktop PC which features an Intel Core-i5 8th Gen CPU while the second, is the latest Core-i5 12th Gen setup with DDR5 memory to boot.
In benchmark terms, I ran the 3DMark Storage Benchmark and achieved a score of 2,647 on the 12th gen setup. On my 8th gen PC, the drive managed an impressive 2,107.
Interestingly, I managed to set the highest benchmark score for this product SKU on the 3DMark leaderboards. This was thanks to the optimised architecture on the Intel 12th Gen system.
While hardcore gamers may want something even faster to go with their super high-end rig, I found the WD_BLACK SN750 SE to be perfectly suited to each of my mid-range machines.
What makes this version of the WD_BLACK SN750 SE a “Limited Edition” drive is a bundled copy of Battlefield 2042. The drive is also branded with the Battlefield logo, which, game issues aside, looks pretty damn cool. To redeem your game you log on to a specific website with your unique bundled code and a game key will be sent to you.
