The Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G is the latest mid-range smartphone to offer the 5G upgrade onto an already impressive smartphone range. Sporting a chipset refresh with some additional features, like 5G and Wi-Fi 6, the new Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G is a minor update to the Galaxy A52 that launched earlier this year.
While most of this smartphone’s specs have remained the same, the biggest update to this model is the Qualcomm SM7225 Snapdragon 750G 5G which replaces the Qualcomm SM7125 Snapdragon 720G on the Galaxy A52.
The model we received for review featured 128GB storage space with 6GB of memory. Additional storage can be added by way of a microSDXC card that is shared with the SIM slot.
The screen is a beautiful 6.5-inch Super AMOLED display running at a refresh rate of 120Hz, which is simply gorgeous for everyday use, but really shines when you start playing games, but more on this later.
The Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G feels good in the hand and I was surprised at how nice the plastic back of this phone is. Unlike glass-backed phones, this one does not attract nasty fingerprints, something I was very grateful for during my review time with this phone.
On the back of the phone, you are greeted by a four-camera cluster arranged neatly on a slightly raised bump. As the main rear camera, the Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G sports an impressive 64mp sensor with an aperture rating of f/1.7.
There’s also an ultrawide 12mp camera and a 5mp macro camera for those close-up shots. The front-facing selfie camera is an impressive 32mp sensor that gives you plenty of headroom to edit your selfies.

Content creators will also appreciate the video capabilities of this smartphone. Both the front and the main-rear camera can shoot video in 4K resolution at 30fps and you can get up to 60fps on the rear camera if you shoot in 1080p.
Video and photos produced on the Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G are fantastic and the massive 64mp sensor shoots impressive photos even in low light conditions. As someone who takes pics daily with my smartphone, I was really happy with the quality of the photos and video I could shoot on this smartphone. In fact, I did not expect to like this phone as much as I did.

The screen is vibrant and silky smooth thanks to that 120Hz refresh rate. Things as mundane as flipping screens look so much nicer with a higher refresh rate. Of course, if you’d like to save battery power, it will be a good idea to manually switch the phone’s refresh rate to 60Hz in the Display Settings menu.
The higher refresh rate also translates very nicely to in-game performance too. Although not all mobile games support 60fps or 120fps, I found my usual array of action games ran beautifully on this smartphone. Both PUBGM and CODM performs really well and running the 3D Mark benchmark confirmed our findings. The Wild Life benchmark delivered a score of 2493 while Wild Life Extreme produced a score of 691.
The phone’s built-in speakers deliver good audio quality but as always, a good pair of headphones is much better for gaming. Thankfully, there is a 3,5mm audio jack so you can stick with your wired headphone or use Bluetooth.
I love to hunt for a good bargain when it comes to tech, and I think Samsung managed to hit the sweet spot with this phone. At under R9,000, the Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G offers really good value for money if you are into content creation or gaming. There is plenty of power under the hood, the camera is fantastic and editing video on the 120Hz is a dream.
