One of the most anticipated games this year gets a new game mode that will allow players to create custom games, with features and content pulled from previous titles in the franchise.
At yesterday’s EA Play Live 2021 event, the company revealed one of the game modes available with Battlefield 2042 when it launches later this year. The community-driven multiplayer sandbox mode, called Battlefield Portal, will feature maps, weapons and other content from previous games in the franchise, including Battlefield 1942, Bad Company 2, Battlefield 3, and of course, Battlefield 2042. EA says this is “Your Battlefield, Your Way”, and players will be able to tweak game rules at a script level and pull any multiplayer elements from these titles.

With the already intense battles of up to 128 players, imagine seeing WW2 era weapons fight it out with the modern weapons in Battlefield 2042; it’s a recipe for mayhem and hours of fun. Custom games can be shared with the community, so we’re expecting some insane game configurations from BF fans. There will also be official EA experiences that gamers can download, tweak and play.
Even though Portal gives players the ability to create custom games, EA says that you won’t be able to create or edit maps.
To use this new game feature, players will use the web-based Battlefield Builder to create custom games and configure rules. You can read more about Battlefield Portal here.
Battlefield 2042 is planned for release on October 22, 2021. You can pre-order it on Origin, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.
The game will also be released on Xbox Series X/S and the PS5, and a version will be made available for Xbox One and PS4 consoles but won’t support 128-players.
