Halo Infinite’s multiplayer mode is free, includes cross-play and cross-progression

Although Halo Infinite didn’t feature much in this weekend’s Xbox E3 show, developer 343 Industries has now dropped a 12-minute video and a comprehensive info dump introducing the game’s free multiplayer mode that explain exactly how it works.

For the first time in the series, Halo Infinite will include cross-play and cross-progression between PC and Xbox consoles at launch time, with support for split-screen and LAN play via a PC local server app. As expected for a free multiplayer game, however, some of the custom cosmetics – and, like every other Halo game, Halo Infinite has a lot of custom cosmetics – require a season pass purchase, but 343 Industries has confirmed that the game won’t have loot boxes.

For Halo noobs, Halo Infinite also debuts a new Academy mode that “lets you configure specific loadouts, deploy opponent bots of various skill levels, and practice on your own terms”.

Halo Infinite is out on PC and Xbox consoles this holiday season, preceded by a technical preview in the next two or three months.
