From 14:00 until 22:00 tonight, Eskom has confirmed, customers can enjoy a limited-time Black Wednesday special, including a 100 percent extra savings on electricity use. No opt-in (or opt-out) required!
On social media, South Africans have welcomed the news. “I was going to reset my microwave clock,” gushes Guy Imadeup on Twitter, probably. “But now I can make other plans. Who’s up for weeping in the dark with me?”
It’s the first time since 2019 that Eskom has featured this mega-deal for its subscribers, now made possible by a series of unexpected open slots in generating capacity at Medupi and Duvha power stations and “high winter demand”.
