Half of the internet is offline, and this is how those movies and TV shows start

Reddit isn’t loading? It’s not just you.

A major internet connectivity failure has bumped dozens, maybe even hundreds of websites and social media networks offline, including CNN, PayPal, Spotify, Amazon, and Twitch, with users finding an “Error 503 Service Unavailable” screen instead of hot new Lady Dimitrescu memes. According to the The Verge, which is currently publishing content out of Google Docs (lol), this disruption is the result of a glitch at US-based cloud computing host Fastly.

The most recent update on Fastly’s status page claims that “the issue has been identified and a fix has been applied”, but at publish time, Downdetector shows some unresolved problems.

Keep clicking. A week from now, maybe, when most of humanity has been wiped out by 5G microdrones, you and the other survivors can swap stories about those last, desperate moments before the wifi got nuked.
