Debuted with a teaser trailer this week during Games Workshop’s Warhammer Skulls livestream event, Frontier Foundry’s reboot of the 1998 kult-klassic deploys the Grey Knight inquisitors of the Ordo Malleus to resolve “a galaxy-wide plot to infect worlds with cosmic plague”.
According to the game’s Steam page, Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters promises a “cinematic, story-driven campaign” written by Aaron Dembski-Bowden, whose published work includes multiple novels and comics based on the Warhammer 40,000 franchise.
Grey Knights are humanity’s greatest weapon. A secretive yet supremely powerful chapter of Space Marines sworn to eradicate corruption, these legendary Daemonhunters are dedicated to combating the minions of Chaos. Lead your own personalised squad against a galaxy-wide plot to infect worlds with a cosmic plague, The Bloom.
Much like the original – or, if you missed that one, other contemporary genre games like X-COM: UFO Defense and, more recently, The Banner Saga series, Into the Breach, and Gears Tactics – the reboot features turn-based tactical gameplay with a customisable squad of Daemonhunters.
Choose powerful classes, wield incredible weapons, use environments to your advantage, and target specific enemy weak points to hinder the advance of an ever-evolving and mutating threat.
Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters is expected to launch on PC in 2022.
