At this point, as long as there’s a Vault, some over-the-top violence, and a smattering of social commentary in the Borderlands movie, I’ll be happy.
Magician and comedian Penn Jillette is the most recent addition to the Borderlands movie mega-cast that already includes Cate Blanchett, Jaime Lee Curtis, and Jack Black. Jillette previously worked on the Borderlands franchise for Borderlands 3 in which he voiced Pain, one half of sadistic boss-fight duo Pain and Terror (geddit?), encountered by the Vault Hunter on Pandora. He will not be reprising his role for the movie adaptation, though (boooo).
According to SlashFilm, Jillette will instead have a very small part as a dodgy preacher who ends up in space-police custody alongside Kevin Hart’s Roland, a former elite mercenary seeking redemption. It could be the origin story for Pain, you never know.
Other recently announced cast members include Gina Gershon as Moxxi, Cheyenne Jackson as Jakobs, Charles Babalola as Hammerlock, Ryann Redmond as Ellie, Steven Boyer as Scooter, and Benjamin Byron Davis as Marcus. Who all seem pretty spot-on, even if Hammerlock and Jakobs are much older in the games. The only core member we’re really missing is Dr. Zed.
There’s no official release date for the Borderlands movie, yet, but production is currently underway.
