Dexter Season 9

Dexter is back and feeling a little misunderstood

You should know by now that everyone’s favourite serial killer with a conscience, Dexter, is coming back to potentially right the wrongs of Season 8. And there were so many wrongs…

SPOILER ALERT if you have somehow avoided what happened in the eighth season of Dexter, back in 2013, and still intend to watch it. Maybe don’t, just a suggestion. From killing off Deb, to abandoning Dexter’s child into the care of a murderer, to making him run away to become a lumberjack, Season 8 of  Dexter has a lot to answer for. This new season is supposedly an attempt to do that.

Showtime’s upcoming, 10-episode limited series is not a reboot, so forget about getting Deb back or anything else that made sense. Nope, this is a “revival” set 10 years after the events of the finale. If you’ll recall, Dexter sailed his trusty murder boat into a hurricane and was presumed dead by the many people looking for him, only to pitch up in Oregon, wrapped in lumberjack flannel. Little is known about the new plot, but you can be fairly certain that Dexter is going to kill some people, other people are going to be suspicious of him, and we’re all going to root for him to evade capture because he’s pretty. Even though he really needs to get caught at this point.

Here’s the latest teaser:

So pretty.

Don’t expect many familiar faces. Michael C. Hall returns as Dexter (obviously), but the rest of the cast so far includes newcomers Julia Jones (The Mandalorian), Clancy Brown (The Shawshank Redemption), Alano Miller (Underground), Jamie Chung (Lovecraft Country), and Oscar Wahlberg (NOS4A2).

Dexter returns to Showtime some time around September/October this year.
