Make your dreams a reality with ITTHYNK’s Game Development Incubation Program

Local software company ITTHYNK Smart Solutions has teamed up with Microsoft, the University of Witwatersrand, HP, Ludique Works, Immortal Media, Africa Games Week, and Letsema to present the ITTHYNK Game Development Incubation Programme, a six-month series of “lessons, workshops, and competitions” for prospective game developers and artists in South Africa.

The ITTHYNK Game Development Incubation Programme is designed to equip “upcoming video game developers and artists with the necessary skills and funding required to launch and manage a profitable video game development studio”, with a weekly schedule of events including classes and visits by industry guests and mentors.

Through a series of lessons, workshops and competitions, participants will be able to register their own video game development start-up and build a video game prototype they will later showcase to potential investors and publishers at Africa Games Week in December 2021.

Registration is open now until 14 May for solos and teams, and candidates will be invited to join a game jam in Joburg on the weekend 22-23 May (this date is subject to change, however) to qualify for selection. Out of those, 50 candidates go on to an interview and testing phase, and 30 candidates will be chosen for the ITTHYNK Game Development Incubation Programme.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

To register, candidates must:

  • Be a South African citizen who is black, coloured, or Indian
  • Available to attend full-time from 1 June – 27 November
  • Have access to a laptop and internet connection

Candidates should also be based in Gauteng or able to relocate at their own cost.
