Season 9 of Apex Legends begins next week and it’s bringing a whole new permanent game mode with it – Arenas.
Entirely separate from Battle Royale, Arenas is a new game mode in which two squads face off in multiple 3v3 battles for ultimate supremacy. Before each round begins, you’ll get a chance to customise your loadout by purchasing gear, weapons, weapon upgrades, and healing supplies, using materials gathered/earned during the previous round (unless it’s the first one, obviously). But that’s not all, you’ll also have to purchase additional charges of your chosen Legend’s Tactical and Ultimate abilities, because they don’t refresh like in Battle Royale.
So, yes, you’re going to have to make some tough choices between powerful abilities and weapons upgrades, because strategy. You can, however, bank any unused materials for the next round, allowing you to save up for something special. Unused Tactical and Ultimate charges will also carry over, but you’ll have to buy new weapons each round.
But how do you win? Well, you’ve got to slátra the enemy over at least three rounds, but also have to be ahead by two rounds. This means a match can potentially go on for nine rounds in total, if you end up in a 4-4 tie. If that happens, you go into sudden death and the winner of the next round takes all.
You’ll be fighting across a mixture of existing Kings Canyon and World’s Edge locations and two new maps (Party Crasher and Phase Runner) with more new maps coming in the future. From the beginning of Season 9, there will be five Arenas maps in rotation.
