John Wick Winston

John Wick TV series is a prequel, will not feature Keanu Reeves

If you were hoping for even more extended adventures of everyone’s favourite dog person, John Wick, the upcoming TV series is set too far in the past for him to be involved.

According to Indiewire, The Continental will instead focus on a young Winston (played by a 70-something Ian McShane in the movies).

What we’re exploring in ‘The Continental’ is the young Winston and how it came to be that he and his team of confederates found their way into this hotel, which we have met for the first time in the movie franchise 40 years later.

In the John Wick movies, Winston is the owner of the New York Continental, a hotel for assassins that has very specific rules about not killing people within its walls. We don’t know much about Winston’s backstory, other than him being a calculating friend of Wick’s with exceptional marksmanship skills. Obviously, McShane will not be reprising his role for the series, other than potentially in voice-over capacity. Keanu Reeves is likely to be involved as a producer since his character would likely still be a child or not even born yet.

The first season of The Continental will be a limited series of three 90-minute episodes and is due to release on Starz some time after the fourth John Wick movie, which is currently due out on 27 May 2022.
