EA and BioWare’s critically acclaimed RPG Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is reportedly being remade for modern audiences, also probably money.
That’s if Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier and Eurogamer are to be believed. Schreier recently took part in a MinnMax podcast in which he revealed that the much-rumoured KOTOR remake is indeed a thing.
This is public at this point, I’ve basically confirmed Aspyr – which is the company that’s ported a bunch of KOTOR games – is working on the remake.
Aspyr is a game developer and publisher that mainly focusses on developing ports of games for platforms other than the one they were originally intended for (including porting the original KOTOR to Mac OS X, iOS, and Android), but this time they’re working on a remake, not a port.
Originally released for Xbox and PC back in 2003, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is set about 4,000 years before the events in Episode 1. You play as a Jedi attempting to defend the Galactic Republic from Darth Malak and the Sith armada. Choices made throughout the game determine whether you align with the light or dark side, resulting in different endings and an obligatory twist. Combat is round-based using an invisible d20 System from D&D, so it will be interesting to see if that changes for the remake.
