The latest trailer for Fast & Furious 9 is out, featuring SPOILER ALERT a sequence that sends Roman and Tej into orbit inside a muscle car, modified for space travel, because this is Fast & Furious and there is nowhere else to go, or is there?
Over the years, the Fast & Furious franchise has brought us cars versus cars, tanks, planes, nuclear submarines, and physics in general. Now, in Fast & Furious 9, they’ve discovered the magic of magnets and at least one car is going into space. Observe:
This isn’t even the last film in the increasingly insane series that used to be about a guy that drives good, there are still two more to go. So where do you think they’re heading? Well, F9 director Justin Lin, speaking at a virtual conference, recently suggested that a Jurassic World crossover isn’t outside the realm of possibility, when asked if such a thing could ever happen.
Well, I’ve never said never to anything.
He also said it would fit in with their philosophy “not to ever be boxed in or labeled”. So it’s not a no. Both franchises are owned by Universal Studios, so it wouldn’t be particularly hard to achieve.
The idea of Fast & Furious doing a crossover with Jurassic World has never even crossed the abandoned backwaters of my mind, but now that it has I want it with every fibre of my being. Somebody has strapped nuclear weapons to the dinosaurs and only one man can drive fast enough to catch them! Also, the raptors have lasers now. What else are they going to do? Time-travel?
It’s probably time-travel.
