You had me at zombie tigers.
Directed by Zack Snyder, Army of the Dead follows a plucky band of zombie apocalypse survivors, led by zombie-war veteran Scott Ward (Dave Bautista), charged with pulling off a $200 million money heist in the middle of the Las Vegas quarantine zone before it gets nuked. Unfortunately, the quarantine zone is chock-full of zombies, hence the whole quarantine situation. Also, they’re not all your regular disaffected dead, there are Alpha zombies now – smart, organised, and with a range of zombie fauna on their side. They even have a whole monarchy-type situation going on. However will the filthy human interlopers survive?
Besides Bautista, the cast includes Ella Purnell (Sweetbitter), Omari Hardwick (Power), Ana de la Reguera (Narcos), Theo Rossi (Luke Cage), Matthias Schweighöfer (You Are Wanted), Nora Arnezeder (Riviera), Hiroyuki Sanada (Westworld), and Tig Notaro (Star Trek: Discovery).
Army of the Dead launches on Netflix on 21 May and it will also be available in select theatres.
But that’s not all, the film is also getting an animated spin-off prequel series on Netflix called Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas, revolving around the early days of the zombie outbreak. The release date has yet to be confirmed.
