Looking for a little escapism from our plague-ravaged world? How about a fictional plague-ravaged world? Thymesia is very unrealistic, in that banana bread isn’t even mentioned once, but you do get to turn into a raven instead of a shell of your former self.
Developed by OverBorder Studio and published by Team17, Thymesia is a Souls-like action game that takes place in a kingdom rife with plague and infested with monsters as the result of wide-scale alchemical mismanagement. You play as amnesiac Corvus who has the power to transmute disease into physical weaponry and to turn into a deadly monster raven, when required. He’s also chock-full of important secrets he isn’t even aware of. Recover Corvus’ shattered memories to discover the truth behind the chaos, or some version of it. Your choices throughout the game will shape your ending, so multiple playthroughs are encouraged.
Speaking of choices, build your own play style with modified weapons and movement upgrades to improve your chances of surviving the hostile monsters standing between you and the truth. You’re going to need all of the precision parrying and dynamic dodging you can muster to make it through this punishing plague tale.
Thymesia is due to launch on 31 December for PC (Steam).
