Monster Hunter Rise

Monster Hunter Rise lets you ride monsters, giant huskies

Take your good boy into battle in Monster Hunter Rise for the Nintendo Switch – out now.

So what’s new in Monster Hunter Rise? For starters, there’s the Wirebug, a new piece of equipment that functions sort of like a grappling hook, but instead of a hook, it’s a flying bug and, instead of a rope, its bug butt silk. The Wirebug can be used to traverse terrain like Spiderman, wall run, or prevent yourself from falling over, but it also has offensive capabilities, like Silkbind attacks. It can also be crucial in one of the cooler new features of Rise: Wyvern Riding.

Yup, you can use Wirebug attacks to get monsters into a “mountable state” (anyone else feel uncomfortable?), allowing you to control their actions and go on a monster-riding rampage. Each monster has their own powerful Punisher move, so up your bondage game.

Perhaps most important of all, Monster Hunter Rise features Palamutes, a brand new support Buddy to aid you on your hunts. Basically giant dogs, Palamutes can synchronise attacks with you and let you RIDE ON THEIR BACKS. While riding, you won’t consume stamina and you’ll be able to use certain items, and recover health, for maximum efficiency and adorableness. Don’t worry, Palicoes still exist. Any combination of the two Buddy types can join you in single player, but in multiplayer you can choose only one.

There are also new monsters, locales, and a new Rampage mode in which you will defend your home town by facing off against wave after wave of ferocious beasts. Check out the official Monster Hunter Rise site for all the details.

If you don’t have a Switch, the PC version of Monster Hunter Rise will be out some time in early 2022.
