The Remastered edition of Final Fantasy 8 has made its way to mobile, so get ready to gather those Guardian Forces and take some teenage angst with you wherever you may wander. Just be aware that the local price isn’t particularly promotional.
FF8 Remastered launched on Android and iOS today for the “Release week special promotion!” price of R329.99 which is currently around about $22, even though, according to the app documentation on Google Play, it’s meant to be $16.99 (about R254) until 4 April. Seems the localisation bot didn’t get the memo. If the lack of a deal concerns you, FF8 Remastered on mobile does not currently support cloud saves or controllers and the official recommendation is to save often in case you get stuck trying to get out of a vehicle (making any further progress impossible), so maybe you’re not missing out on much.
You could always save that 2.59GB of phone space for something else (more pictures of your cat) and go play FF8 for (sort of) free on the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or, if you crave the mobile experience, it’s also on the Nintendo Switch for R319.00 (go ahead and buy a Bar One with the R10 you saved – treat yo’self).
What does the remaster get you? Enhanced major character models, alongside a general graphics update, and some gameplay boosts including Battle Assist, the option to turn off random battle encounters, and 3x Speed for angsty teens in a hurry.
